Warrilow looking to remain in the play-off places

Faversham Town go into this weekend’s home game with Crowborough Athletic looking for their second triumph over the Crows in four days to keep themselves firmly in the South East play-off places with manager Tommy Warrilow pleased with his side’s form.

Tommy Warrilow’s side sit in the last of the treasured post season spots with now just three points separating fourth placed Sittingbourne from sixth placed Jersey Bulls with just seven games left.

We caught up with Warrilow as he was preparing and hoping for a quick fire double and he told us, “The last month or so has been a difficult month for us – it’s been frustrating as we have been there or there abouts in every game that we have played.”

“I am always honest after games and I have had to come away from doing some interviews because I began to sound like a stuck record – I really do think we should have got more points out of the games that we have played, in the draws that we have got and we were unfortunate on Saturday not to get something from the defeat at Croydon. It’s all about keeping the boys heads up and morales up as it is frustrating times, but we are still sitting nicely.”

“Tuesday was a big game for us as it was our game in hand on some of those around us and we wanted to try and get the gap a little bit bigger but, in the end, it could mean nothing as we still have twenty-one points to play for! So, we have to carry on and hopefully get the same result when Crowborough come to us on Saturday!”

“I think that some people may have lost a little perspective of as this is our first season in this League and with thirty-five games played, we are in a play-off place. Yes, we have been frustrated at some of the draws and so on, but we are off the back of a promotion last year and if we can stay where we are in the play-offs it’ll be fantastic.”

“We will keep chasing until it is mathematically impossible – there will still be twists and turns,” Warrilow went on.

“We have had a tough month in February results wise as we have drawn so many games, but we have had some journeys away on the bounce – Jersey, Hassocks, Eastbourne, Crowborough –  so we have had some toughies and have had a tough month, but I am always up front and honest and it’s been really frustrating as I do believe that we deserve more!

“But then you don’t know just how important these points are until the end of the season – at the moment they are really important so, we have to crack on through Saturday and with a clear week now all the midweek games are over, have a Tuesday and Thursday working with the boys at a tough stage of the season.”

“I think that it’s a huge boost having time on the training ground now as you can get the players in – you can give them a blow on a Tuesday but most of it will be about players being fit… we have got a small squad but we just have to make sure that they are all comfortable going into the final games of the season.”

“It’s been a frustrating month but it’s not the be all and end all because the bigger picture and our aim was to hopefully get into the play-offs and getting on with our seasons after last year’s expectations… we expect a lot from the boys and we put that on the boys as well but that’s done in-house – if we end up in our first season at this level going to the play-offs and a promotion then on top of the FA Cup run that we have had, I think it will be a fantastic season!”

“We demand a lot and we just have to make sure that now we turn the games into wins in the business end of the season.”
