Victory for Olsen at Silverstone

Alex Olsen took victory in the opening round of the National Superstock 1000 season at Silverstone last weekend, and in doing so netted Team IMR’s first victory in the championship.

Olsen was victorious by just over a second on his main rivals after 18 pulsating laps.

This was well deserved, after an electrical glitch robbed Alex and the team of victory in Saturday’s opening leg of the two-part race from pole position. Just a couple of corners from home Alex was forced to stop whilst leading, to ‘reset’ the Team IMR BMW S1000RR and dash to the line to secure third place. A result he replicated in the second leg later on Easter Saturday. He also set the fastest lap in race one.

Olsen and Team IMR now go into round two at Oulton Park [May 3-6] third in the championship standings and in great shape to repeat that top step at the Cheshire venue.

The 26-year-old said of his Easter season-opener: “After a good pre-season test at the Silverstone track, we were confident that we would be strong going into round one. We topped the qualifying, with a time that was well under the lap record. In the race once I settled in and just watched my lap timer and my board and counted down the laps. We were unlucky not to get the win.

We made a little change for the second part of the race on Saturday, to help with a little rear-grip, which improved that for sure; then on Sunday in morning warm-up we made another small change and the plan was to lead the race from the start, to try and break Taylor and Coops and it worked. Three podiums and a win is a great way to start the season, so big thanks to everyone at Team IMR for a great weekend. We can all look forward to Oulton now.”

Team Manager Ian Moffitt said: “Not a bad effort for a small team based in a little garage in Ratalla on the Ards Peninsula. We knew this season when we signed Alex we could challenge at the front, but to take our maiden win on the first weekend of the season is a great boost for all involved. This sets us up well for the season ahead and we can now look forward to Oulton Park with optimism. Thanks to everyone involved, not least Alex and the hard-working crew at Team IMR; it’s been a great team effort.”

Moffitt also added: “Team IMR would like to thank our current partners and product suppliers for their continued support. We do still have an opportunity for someone to come onboard as title partner. This would include team naming rights, and the benefits that come with working alongside a leading team and rider in an ultra-competitive championship.”
