Victory for Bond
Victory for Bond

Jamie Bond with a first victory in one of Sunday’s two dramatic Renault UK Clio Cup rounds at Snetterton after Jack Young was hit with time penalties.

Team HARD’s Bond took his maiden win in the first of Snetterton’s two races – highlights of which were included into ITV4’s live broadcast from the event, headlined by the British Touring Car Championship.

MRM driver Young crossed the line in first place but officials later handed him a time penalty for his part in an incident with title rival Coates as they disputed the lead in the closing stages.

The penalty dropped Young to fifth in the final classification with Bond promoted to first, MRM’s Brett Lidsey to second and Team HARD’s Ethan Hammerton to third for his first top-three race result in the Clio Cup.

Meanwhile Coates was only sixth – the incident with Young having damaged his Team HARD car, this causing a tyre to puncture on the final lap.

Bond’s promotion to first place meant not only a maiden win for him but a maximum score as well as he also collected bonus points for leading the race (in the early stages) and setting the fastest lap.

He then started race two – shown live and in full on ITV4 – from pole position but there was to be a change in fortunes.

Bond led all the way and again set the fastest lap to finish comfortably ahead of the squabbling Young and Coates who crossed the line in second and third positions.

However, both Bond and Young were given time penalties – the former for having made a false start; the latter for more contact with Coates.

It meant a revised result which put Coates first ahead of Young. Meanwhile Bond, needing to make up ten seconds to overcome his penalty, missed out on a podium result by just 0.9s – third instead falling to Lidsey who collected his second top-three finish of the day.
