On Tuesday evening VCD Athletic and Welling United meet in Crayford in round two of the Kent Senior Cup.

Both were in FA Trophy third qualifying round action on Saturday. The Vickers were drawn away to Wingate and Finchley but, due to issues with the North London club’s pitch surroundings, they had to give up home advantage. It didn’t seem to bother them too much and they held a one-nil lead at the break through a goal scored by Ryan Lowe.
Courtney Barrington levelled one minute after the restart but Camilo Restrepo restored Wingate’s lead and a Gianluca Botti brace ensured that the club from the league above progressed.
Meanwhile, Welling ended a chaotic forty-eight hours with a victory at fellow step three club Royston Town. Interim manager Rod Stringer had only taken on the appointment during the previous evening and met the players for the first time prior to kick off.
Femi Akinwande gave the Wings a half time lead and John Ufuah was twice on target in the second period to ensure them a safe passage to the first round.
By virtue of being Kent Senior Cup holders, Welling United received a bye to this round however, VCD have already negotiated a tough game against Isthmian Premier League Folkestone Invicta. Bivesh Gurung put a young Invicta side ahead in the second half but VCD took it to penalties with a last minute deflected goal by Lee Bird.
Each side scored all five of their spot kicks to take the shoot-out to sudden death. Folkestone’s first one came out off the underside of the bar allowing Michael Fenn a chance of glory which he took when firing it straight down the middle.
Neither VCD nor Welling have huge squads so it is likely that there will be a good percentage of first team players in a game that will have extra spice as a local derby.
