VCD Athletic v Faversham Town preview

On Tuesday night VCD Athletic entertain Faversham Town in a BetVictor Isthmian League South East Division game.

At present the Vickers are in thirteenth and the Lilywhites are four places and six points behind but have played two games fewer.

So tight is the league that neither are out of the running for a play-off place entirely but to make that happen, they would need to show championship winning form between now and the end of the season.

For the Vickers, their early season form has dropped off. They failed to win a point in three games in December and have only won two in seven in 2020, a one-nil victory at Ramsgate and a two-one win over Whyteleafe.

On Saturday, they lost three-two at league leaders Hastings United but it was tough on Keith McMahon’s team. Having gone in two-nil down, they did well to draw level through goals from Bode Anidugbe and Ayman El-Mogharbel only to concede a decider with six minutes remaining.

James Collins’ team are going through a difficult time as well. They only picked up two points in four games in December and have only won once in 2020, a two-one victory at home to Chichester City, and drawn twice in six league games.

They were also defeated on Saturday, two-nil at Sevenoaks Town who played the last thirty minutes with ten men.

When the two teams met at the Shepherd Neame Stadium in September, there was plenty of late drama. Alfie Cue put the Vickers ahead just after the hour mark but Jack Sellens levelled with five minutes remaining.

VCD weren’t to be denied, though, and Abdul Lyoubi snatched the winner two minutes later.

Both teams will be looking to bounce back from Saturday so a competitive battle can be expected.
