Canterbury’s Tristan Ovenden picked up valuable points at the latest round of the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship five nations trophy at Pembrey Circuit.

The Goody Demolition backed driver got straight down to business and was fourth fastest in practice a good omen of what was to come! A second-row grid position for qualifying 1 didn’t perturb him either as he finished second fastest overall.
Then in qualifying 2 an extremely impressive third spot. Which saw him tied in second in the standings. After all, qualifying he was still in third place. Securing a front row grid place for the Final. He would lose a place at turn one and would rather frustratingly see out the race in fourth.
Sunday dawned the Welsh weather was continuing to be kind! The Witham backed driver found it tricky to get back to the form he finished the previous day in and after the first two qualifying sessions was sitting in 6th place.
He would line up for the final on the back row, leaving himself a lot of hard work to climb the ranks on the tricky Welsch circuit not known for its passing opportunities. He skilfully managed to avoid an incident on the first lap and opted to take his joker on the second a tactic which would serve him well as he completed the remainder of the race with clear track ahead of him. Taking the flag in a commanding fourth place.

Ovenden now sits in fourth place in the championship and will be looking to improve that when the championship heads to the Legendary Loheac Circuit in Britanny France at the end of August for the next round.
Speaking after the weekend, Ovenden said: “I was pleased with our pace, and a little disappointed not to get third on Saturday, but we had a good go at it and as a result sustained a bit of damage, but the team did an excellent job in the evening to re-prep the car.
“Sunday didn’t start quite so well, but there wasn’t much in it really. Maybe the layout that way round doesn’t suit us quite so well. We still made good progress, and I was pretty happy with fourth off the back row, despite a small penalty for touching the Joker merge line!
“Overall, a positive step forward and good points scored. Thanks very much to the team, sponsors and supporters for help making it happen.”
Will Ovenden was looking to improve his third place spot in the Motorsport UK Cross Car Championship. Saturday started strong for the young Canterbury driver finishing in third by a few 100ths of a second.

Qualifying 2 saw the youngsters luck chance, although driven well there was an incident on the final lap which was Red flagged a signal that Ovenden didn’t see and continued to drive.
This unfortunately resulted in him being disqualifying from Q2. At the intermediate stage he was residing in a lowly 10th place not part of the plan. A great Semi-final drive saw him finish in second place and securing a front row start for the final. Finishing in second place after a hard fought final.
For round 6 the circuit ran in the opposite direction but Ovenden found it difficult to get back into the grove and at the intermediate stage was placed in 7th place.
After getting stuck in traffic during the Semi-final he crossed the line in 8th spot, bitterly disappointed to miss out on the final. Despite the disappointment he still sits in third place in the championship.
