Turner excited ahead of League debut

Jake Turner will make his League debut in goal for Gillingham this weekend and has been talking all about it to KSN this week.

Turner, the former Newcastle United keeper, will play on Saturday as the Gills travel to face Crawley Town, the parent club of current number one Glenn Morris, and because of the loan regulation, Morris, who was one of the stars of last weekend’s eventful draw with Swindon Town, will sit out this week handing Turner his Gillingham chance.

“To be fair, when Glenn came in the first game, I looked for was Crawley,” Turner admitted. “I thought that could be my chance there and have been looking forward to it. I’ll take it in my stride and hopefully get the clean sheet and the win!”

Turner was signed by the Gills before Morris, but he told us there’s no animosity between the two. “I just want to play games and I’m trying to do all I can to play” he said. “To be fair, the Gaffer told me that we need more experience in certain areas. We got Glenn going into the first game of the season and I can’t say anything against him as he’s an experienced guy, and he’s done excellent. At the end of the day, it’s a team game and if the team is doing well, that’s great!”

“He’s played over 500 games and I’m learning so much just by watching and talking to him. He’s a great lad and watching him every week, I’m certainly picking up little things.”

“Thought Glenn played excellent last Saturday with some terrific saves. It’s tough when you go down to ten men – he did what he needed to do, and the lads did well – the running stats were very high – and everyone’s done well to keep the clean sheet.”

With, in excess of a thousand Gills fans making the trip, Turner was asked about the amazing level of support – he said, “Our supporters are excellent – they really are the twelfth man, I know it’s a bit of a cliché, but they help you a lot when you’re on the pitch and you can hear them especially when they out sing the home supporters… I can’t wait for it – I came here to play, and it should be an opportunity for me to show what I can do, and I’m sure that Glenn will be there cheering me on!”
