Tunbridge Wells 3-0 Welling Town
Tunbridge Wells 3-0 Welling Town

Kyron Lightfoot’s screamer helped Tunbridge Wells to an impressive 3-0 victory over Welling Town in a feisty encounter that saw both sides finish with 10 men at the Culverden Stadium.

Miles Cornwell and a Sam Oristoki own goal either side of Lightfoot’s beauty secured the points for Wells with their defender Frankie Griffin and Welling’s Carl Oblitey both dismissed late on in this SCEFL Premier Division clash.

The hosts started well with Robbie Bissett firing wide early on and on the quarter hour Harry Hudson fed Cornwell who finished well with a low drive to put Wells ahead.

Welling thought they had levelled when their captain Alexander Nelson found the net only for the referee to blow for a foul earlier in the build-up.

With 42 minutes on the clock came the moment of the game, Lightfoot cut inside from the touchline and hit a sensational strike in to the top corner to send the Tunbridge Wells fans into bedlam behind the goal.

Town more than played their part creating many chances the best of which saw Aaron Lee-Wharton deny Oblitey just before the break, this after Richard Jimoh had sent a free kick just wide.

The second period saw Wells quickly grab a third, Jordan Wells’ tantalising cross was met by the unfortunate Oristoki who bundled the ball home under pressure from Lightfoot who would unquestionably have tapped home.

Welling kept plugging away and can feel hard done to have lost by such a margin with Lee-Wharton the busier keeper, denying Nelson twice more as well as Town striker Eniyelayefa Amgbaduba.

On 70 minutes Wells full-back Griffin picked up a second yellow, having been harshly cautioned early on and Oblitey followed him down the tunnel ten minutes later to even things out, the final action of an entertaining contest.
