Truck Racing Finale

The chequered flag comes down on the British Truck Racing Championship at Brands Hatch this weekend, for their annual  Trucks and Fireworks in association with Dynes extravaganza.

There is likely to be fireworks on track during the weekend as well, in the BTRC’s headline Division 1 category, the fight is between two of the series’ great veteran drivers. And it’s David Jenkins who leads the way, in pursuit of what would be his second title in British heavyweight motorsport competition. Jenkins last claimed the BTRC crown in 2011, but has been a factor in the hunt most years since.

Jenkins’ rival is 10-time title winner Stuart Oliver, who has an opportunity to make history and stand alone as the only man to have claimed the crown 11 times. Oliver is 27 points behind heading into the weekend’s three races, so he’ll need to work hard to be in with a shout. But with five races to go on the Indy circuit, with two on Saturday followed by a trio on Sunday, there is a chance.

Others to watch out for among the Division 1 runners include Craig Reid, who stormed to victory in the first race of the season at the Kent circuit back in April, plus Oliver’s son, Michael. Another who’ll be keen to impress is local landlord Steven Powell, who is pretty much racing in his own back yard.

Stuart Oliver 399

Craig Reid 341

Michael Oliver 335

Steven Powell 330

Further title battles come in the Division 2 class where Callum Eason leads reigning champion Jake Evans. For Eason, this represents and opportunity to wrest away the crown he so narrowly missed out on last year.

Additional contenders who’ll be hoping to end the season on a high at Brands Hatch include John Powell, another local driver, plus Bradley Harvey and Warren Harvey.

The BTRC tops a lively weekend of competition on the circuit, with the Pickup Truck Racing Championship and TCR UK Championship also coming to a close. There will also be action from the MINI CHALLENGE Trophy and Civic Cup across the two days.

Another on-track highlight will be a special rallycross demonstration, as part of the venue’s ongoing centenary celebrations.

Once the dust has settled on Sunday’s race action, roadgoing show trucks will take to the circuit for a twilight convoy before the annual fireworks display ignites the night sky.
