Torquay United 0-0 Bromley

Bromley secured a vital point way at National League leaders Torquay on Saturday evening in front of the BT Sport cameras with another display of resolute defending and some great goal keeping from Mark Cousins.

Manager Andy Woodman made two changes to the side with Luke Coulson and Liam Trotter coming in for Frankie Raymond and Jack Bridge, lining up 4-4-2.

The game got off to a fast paced open start, but it was the home side who had the best early chance when Boden saw his looping effort over Cousins come back off the inside of the post and Chris Bush hooked it away to safety.

In blustery and wet conditions both sides did well to play some good football, with Jude Arthurs in action all over the pitch for The Ravens.

As the half went on Torquay began to dominate possession and do most of the pressing, with Bromley looking to sit deep, soak up pressure and hit The Gulls on the break.

With the home side causing problems down the right, Andrews forced two good saves from Cousins with shots from the edge of the area and he also had a powerful free kick saved by The Ravens custodian.

As Torquay continued to dominate they had an appeal for a penalty turned down when Waters collided with Joe Kizzi in the box, but Referee Declan O’Shea waved the appeals away and the resilient Bromley backline held out to keep the score level at half time.

The second half started with Bromley creating the first chance when a corner was only cleared out to Arthurs who fired wide from 20 yards out.

The Ravens looked dangerous from set pieces and long throws, but the home side started to press again from there with Andrews setting up Hall who saw his shot well saved by the excellent Cousins.

Both teams made changes around the hour mark, with Bromley going close when Coulson’s cross from the left just evaded Michael Cheek who had been starved of service up to that point.

With The Gulls pressings again Little’s corner was met by Sherring’s diving header at the near post, but the ball skidded across the face of the goal and wide.

Another Little corner soon after was headed into the side netting at the far post by Boden and a Randell ball down the right then found Kimpionka whose side footed effort was saved by Cousins low down to his left. Another dangerous deep cross from Randell was headed away by Kizzi when under pressure in a crowded area, a series of corners followed before Bromley had a decent spell.

Raymond’s deep free kick from the right was tipped over by Covolan who was nearly caught out of position and Charlie Fox headed over from the resulting Raymond corner. Late on Torquay had another spell on top, pumping dangerous balls into the box and testing the Bromley defence, with Bush and Kizzi making brave blocks to keep the ball out and their midfield working tirelessly to close down space and pressure the player with the ball.

The home side had one more big chance at the death when a mix up between Fox & Mitchell saw Kimpionka race clear in the area, but his low shot was blocked by the body of the advancing Cousins when one on one and The Ravens held on for a hard fought point that their efforts deserved.

The point along with other results saw Bromley slip to ninth in the table, but still just one point off the top seven ahead of their away game at struggling Wealdstone on Tuesday night.
