Tonbridge Angels v Eastbourne Borough preview

Game two of Tonbridge Angels’ festive season Vanarama National League South programme is a home game against Eastbourne Borough on Tuesday evening.

On Boxing Day they fell to defeat at Ebbsfleet United when Tom Chapman scored the only goal with eleven minutes remaining. That left the Alan Dunne’s Angels in seventeenth place in the league table, four points clear of the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Eastbourne were crashing to a three-nil defeat at the hands of high flying Worthing. They went one behind three minutes before the end of the first period but were still in the game until conceding a second with two minutes remaining, and a third in stoppage time.

They have had a tough season so far and are in penultimate place, six points adrift of safety.

Last season, the Sports completed the double over Tonbridge to avenge the Angels’ home and away successes in the previous campaign. In the match at Longmead in  January, Eastbourne scored a goal in each half to claim the three points.

Kai Innocent was on target in the first half, and John Shalamo’s goal sealed the points. The Angels’ didn’t help themselves with Garrett Kelly’s third minute dismissal and Gianluca Botti was also shown a second yellow card and was sent off in the second period.

Both teams current form is similar over the last six games with the Angels having won two, drawn one and lost three while Eastbourne have won two and lost four.

Their results in this spell have been particularly ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ as seven days after crashing seven-nil at Torquay United, the Sports crushed Hampton and Richmond Borough six-nil with Pemi Aderoju scoring the first four.
