Tonbridge Angels 2-3 Concord Rangers
Tonbridge Angels 2-3 Concord Rangers

The Tonbridge Angels players, management and supporters would have left Longmead wondering how they lost this game as they dominated possession and played some good football in testing conditions.

Concord came out of the traps quickly but once Tonbridge got hold of the ball they took control & after last week’s great result the confidence was there to see. In the 11th minute Ibrahim Olutade 25 yards out tried his luck & his shot was deflected away for a corner, ten minutes later they were really unlucky to not take the lead when a corner into the area saw Myles Roberts under pressure punch clear & it went backwards toward goal but luckily for him he was able to grab it just before it went into the net.

In the 23rd minute Joe Turner latched onto a long ball via flicks from Olutade & Tom Wood & went into the area & his cross shot evaded everyone. Four minutes Turner had another chance when his free kick from 25 yards went over the bar.

Another chance went in the 31st minute when a free kick into the area was retrieved by Tom Parkinson & his low cross was cleared but only to Turner but his shot from 20 yards went wide. A minute later in a rare attack Concord nearly took the lead Jayden Randell on the left put Ben Allen in & his shot from 15 yards was superbly blocked by Harry Hudson.

Tonbridge finally got the goal they deserved in the 37th minute a ball forward by Sonny Miles down the right wing saw Olutade outmuscle Aran Pollock & race into the area before a square pass to Turner who from 6 yards stroked into the net, unfortunately the lead only lasted two minutes when Reynolds down the right saw his low cross find Joe Payne who fired in from 15 yards this was against the run of play.

The last half chance of the half came in the 43rd minute when Jerry O’Sullivan on the right wing went cross field & passed to Turner who from 25 yards out let fly but Roberts pushed it over the bar.

Half time arrived & the Concord manager would have been happy that his team were level while Steve McKimm would have been a little annoyed as his team deserved to be in front.

The second half was only 1 minute old when Concord took the lead when a cross from the left flank to the back post found Daniel green on his own & he headed past Jon Henly. Two minutes later Ollie Kensdale tried his luck from 40 yards & it went just over the bar.

Tonbridge got back into the game in the 50th minute when a turner free kick on the left side of the area was flicked in by Olutade to continue his great goal scoring form. In the 56th minute Concord could have regained the lead when Green put Reynolds in to the area but his first time shot went wide.

Tonbridge thought they had taken the lead in the 65th minute when a Doug Loft corner into the 6 yard box was headed in by Wood but the referee blew for a foul. Tonbridge were now enjoying a lot of possesion & in the 71st minute Wood in the area twisting his way forward saw his goal bound shot deflected for a corner, six minutes later Jamie Fielding on the right crossed to the back post where Turner was but his header under no pressure went wide.

Concord were now sensing that they could get at least a draw & in the 82nd minute a short corner saw the cross to the back post find Randell but from 6 yards his header went wide. In the 85th minute that man Turner, 20 yards out, had another shot but Roberts saved, then two minutes later Concord scored the winner when a long ball down the right saw Allen go after it, he was helped getting to it when Hudson slipped allowing Allen to go for go & then Henly rushing out slipped as well leaving an empty net for him to slot in.

Tonbridge could not believe what had happened; in the 90th minute that man Turner saw his 20 yards shot parried away by Roberts. The final whistle went & the Tonbridge players were in a little bit of shock but if they play like that they will get the results & survive easily.
