Tonbridge Angels 0-3 Taunton Town
Tonbridge Angels 0-3 Taunton Town

It is true what they say, a week is a long time in football and this week it is true for Tonbridge Angels. Last week they won 5-1 away from home and this week they lost 3-0 at home to Taunton Town.

The biggest worry for Jay Saunders will be that his side have only scored one goal in five home games, something they will be looking to put right as soon as possible.

The game started quickly for Tonbridge as in the second minute Ruben Soares-Junior 15 yards out saw his shot come back of the post but that was false dawn as from then on Taunton controlled the game.

In the 7th minute Taunton took the lead when Ben Swift slipped allowing Dylan Morgan to go into the area and shoot past Jon Henly. Eleven minutes later Morgan nearly scored his second when on the left he went into the area, from 15 yards his shot was saved by Henly.

A minute later Tonbridge could have equalised when Nathan Wood put Ibby Akanbi into the area but his shot was saved easily by Dan Lavercombe.

In the 26th minute Taunton doubled their lead when Henly threw out to Dave Sims-Burgess who straight away passed into the path of Morgan who from 10 yards slipped the ball past Henly. In the third minute off added on time Tonbridge could have got a goal back when Joe Turner put Akanbi in but from 15 yards his shot was easily pushed around the post by Lavercombe.

The second half started with Tonbridge trying to get back into the game and in the 46th minute Akanbi tried his luck from 20 yards but his shot went wide.

A minute later Kodi Lyons-Foster running forward was tackled, the ball came to Soars-Junior who from 15 yards saw his shot come back of the bar.

After these two scares Taunton took back control, in the 59th minute a Morgan cross found Nat Jarvis and from 10 yards his header was pushed it away by Henly.

In a rare attack Sores-Junior saw his 25 yard shot go just over the bar, then in the 68th minute Taunton wrapped up the game when substitute Nick McCootie with his first involvement scored when a long ball out to the left wing saw Lyons-Foster outmuscled for the ball and McCootie went on into the area and shot past Henly.

In the 84th minute Morgan nearly got his hat trick when on the right wing he cut into the area, from 10 yards his shot was saved by Henly.

The final whistle went and Taunton go back to the West Country with the deserved three points while Tonbridge will have two weeks to look over this game before they play Dartford. Jay Saunders will be scratching his head over this performance as it was three mistakes that lost them this game.
