Tonbridge Angels 0-0 Lewes
Tonbridge Angels 0-0 Lewes

This was Tonbridge’s Platinum year and they are hoping for a better season than last, so far so good as they have picked up 4 points out of six but tonight was a struggle as they came up against a team promoted last year who tried to play football & had chances themselves to win it but overall a draw seems to be the right result.

At half time Groundsman Peter Elves was presented with the accolade of groundsman of the year for the Bostik League & overall for Steps 3 & 4.

The game started with Lewes playing nice football but not getting anywhere whilst Tonbridge buoyed by their win on Saturday creating a few chances, in the 11th minute Joe Turner on the left wing cut inside & tried his luck from 20 yards but it was saved by Ex Tonbridge keeper Lewis Carey.

Two minutes later full back James Folkes found himself on the by-line & his cross into the area was met by Turner but his header went wide.

In the 20th minute Alex Read saw his snapshot from 20 yards go past the post. In the 44th minute Lewes had a glorious chance to go ahead when Jonte Smith on halfway put Ronnie Conlan through & Jonathan Henly rushing off his line blocked his shot.

The second half saw Lewes create chances & maybe could have won but Tonbridge were resilient in defence & did have a few chances themselves.

In the 49th minute a corner into the area was half cleared to Sonny Miles although had his back to the goal managed to get a shot away & it went just past the post. Lewes had their chance in the 57th minute when Conlan on the left crossed into the area for Smith & his header went just wide & in the next minute Conlon was put through but running towards goal saw his shot from 15 yards go wide.

In the 63rd minute it was Smith’s turn to run at the Tonbridge defence but again the shot from 18 yards was saved by Henly. In the 66th minute Jack Parter down the left wing crossed into the area where Alex Read’s header was tipped over the bar by Carey & from the resulting corner Read had another chance but his header went wide.

In the 78th minute Tonbridge had a great chance to take the lead when Liam Friend battling away retrieved the ball on the by-line & passed to Tom Beere but he rushed his shot & blazed it over the bar.

The last chance of the game came in the 86th minute when Omarr Lawson running towards goal let fly from 20 yards forcing Henly to push it away. The final whistle went & both sets of players who had given their all came away with a point.
