Laura Tillett is back racing this weekend as she heads to Germany to take part in the German Karting Championship.Richard Pardon - Laura Tillett (27 of 33)

It has been a while since the 22-year-old has been on track racing competitively and she can’t wait to get out there competing this weekend.

Richard Pardon - Laura Tillett (11 of 33)Speaking about how the opportunity came about, Laura said: “I have been dying to get back out racing again for some time now and after watching my brother compete in the World Championships at PFI, I became keener than ever.

“My brother competed a couple of months ago in the German Championships as a one off round and between me and my family we decided that it would be good for me to compete in a round with the team KSM to keep my racing skills up and to give me a racing kick.”

Laura also has the unique opportunity to be racing for a racing legends team, Michael Schumacher will be there himself as his son races.

She added: “As the team isn’t a manufacturing team the drives are paid for by the drivers themselves, but by me being in the same awning as the racing legend and him watching closely there is a great opportunity for other doors to open. The team are helped massively from Michael and are one of the best in Germany, so with their help I will hopefully be a front runner.

“Michael’s son is competing in the Jnr category and he will be attending like any normal racing father supporting his son and teaching him the ways.

“I have always looked up to Michael as a driver, I believe he is very talented and has worked extremely hard to be as good as he is. I am a kart racer at heart and it’s great to see that a man of his experience and skill can still come back to karting to get his kick. It will be great to see how he acts around the racing and hopefully I can take some tips away with me.”

As well as spending time in some of the Caterham Karts Laura has been keeping her fitness up ahead of the weekend.

“I always need to keep my fitness up just in case the right drive comes along. I prepare mostly at the gym as getting on the track can be difficult but the best type of fitness is racing fitness that you can only get from doing the laps.”Richard Pardon - Laura Tillett (15 of 33)

It is clear that Laura has not lost any of her enthusiasm for racing having not been on track competitively this season, and if anything it has made her more determined to succeed.

She said: “I am really excited to be coming back, I miss the rush you get before qualifying and when the races start. I can’t wait to realise my competitive side again and I won’t settle till I’m fastest.

“I would obviously like to make the podium as that would be a great come back to my racing career. I think I will be very happy if I am fast because then I know I will be able to race at the front competitively. I want to make this a race to remember and use everything from what I learned in World racing and put it to my advantage.”
