Three Bridges v Cray Valley Pm preview

Valley continue their late summer travels on Saturday when they return to West Sussex to face “draw specialists” Three Bridges.

Unsurprisingly sitting in a mid-table 11th position at the start of play, “The Bridges” have shared the points in four of their six league games this season – the latest being at Jubilee Walk on Tuesday when they drew 1-1 with Corinthian courtesy of a goal from Ben Bacon.

It comes as no surprise to find then that they also drew their FA Cup Preliminary Round tie with South Park 3-3, before succumbing in a replay.

After sixty years competing in the Sussex County League, Three Bridges joined the Isthmian ranks in 2012 after being promoted as Champions and have retained their position despite relegation in 2016/17 – winning promotion as runners-up in the Southern Combination League the following season.

The introduction of long serving Club stalwart Jamie Mellin as First Team Manager in May is indicative of the Club’s commitment to make a mark in the coming seasons, with former Worthing midfielder Brannon O’Neill leading the scoring charts for The Bridges this season with four goals.

Defeat in a high scoring “classic” at East Grinstead on Tuesday has put a spanner in The Millers promotion charge, so three points on Saturday is a must to keep pace with the leaders.

Your support will be much appreciated.

IT’S A FACT

Three Bridges, at first a tiny hamlet, began to grow with the coming of the London and Brighton Railway in 1841. Despite beliefs to the contrary, the village was named, not after rail bridges, but after three much older crossings over streams in the area (River Mole tributaries).
