Threadgill glad to be back

Chris Threadgill had his best result of the season so far last weekend in the Tristar Triple Challenge at Thruxton.#29 Chris Threadgill Chris Threadgill Racing Triumph Triple T3

He was 10th in the Cup in race one and then he followed that up with 6th in the cup on Sunday and it gives him something to build on for the rest of the season and he brings us up to date with how he got on.

Heading into Thruxton I was really excited to build on the successes of Snetterton, and knowing that on Sunday evening all the championship points got halved made me determined to make the most of the weekend.

Things were not always going to be plain sailing however, as I was recovering from a recently fractured Scaphoid in my throttle wrist, and also ditched my crutches on Thursday morning after badly spraining my left ankle after being knocked off at a track day the week before.

This off also meant that the bike needed a lot of repairs, including handlebars, footpegs, rearsets, and subframes. The bike then wouldn’t start on Friday morning, and it was a frantic rush by the team at T3 Racing to get the generator and crank position sensor replaced in order to get the bike running!

Free practice on Friday went really well, and I immediately gelled with the tarmac at Thruxton, which is like no other track! After never being here before, I set a time that put me P15 overall, and 5th in the cup and I knew I had a lot more to come.

Qualifying and the conditions were tricky, it had been raining on and off all morning, and I opted to go out on wets on the damp track in the hope of a sudden downpour – the opposite happened and the sun came out drying the track up. I could only manage P17 on the grid which I was really disappointed with, but I knew I had the pace to push on in the race.

Race one started with a slightly damp track, and I struggled to find the grip early on in the race. By about lap 6 I was confident in the bike and started to push on, but it was a case of too little too late and I could only manage to cross the line in P19 overall, P10 in the cup. However, my lap times were faster at the end of the race than the group of riders in front by nearly 2 seconds a lap, so this put me back to P17 on the grid for race two.

Race two, and I had a fresh mind-set after being able to relax all day and get my head together for the race. I got a terrible start, heading into the first corner in around 20th place! I was getting frustrated seeing the group in front start to make a break, so I made a lunge up the inside into the club chicane, but my footpeg came loose and I missed the downshifts and ran straight on.

This meant I had to let the other riders back through again to avoid incurring a penalty. Over the next few laps I picked my way back through, and got up to 15th overall, 6th in the cup before Jesse’s big crash forced the red flags and the end of the race.

This equals my result at Snetterton in the main class, and is my best finish in the Cup all year so I am really chuffed to be walking away with solid points again, and I’ve moved up 2 places in the Cup Championship standings.

I’d like to say a big thank you to all my sponsors and supporters: Bossdog Graphics, Shoei, Sidi, Artomise, all the guys at R&T Racing for helping me out all weekend, Dave Harris from T3 Racing for getting my bike running at the 11th hour and all the medics and physios at BSB for keeping my ankle and wrist in a usable state!”
