Those, Lazy, Hazy Days Of Summer
Those, Lazy, Hazy Days Of Summer

Saturday should have been the last day of the regular EFL season. Sunday would normally have hosted Charlton’s annual Player of the Year dinner.

It is a lovely event, fans mingle with the players and bid a fond farewell to some. Also you see friends you only meet at football for the last time for a few weeks.

But summer soon gallops by. In what seems like a flash, the pre-season warm up games start. Time to see and assess the new arrivals for the first time.

All different this year of course. Fans have not seen their team play for two months, and there seems little chance of the season restarting. No Player of the Year dinner either.

One of the early signs of the advent of the new season is the release of the fixture list in mid-June.

Though unlikely, this could still happen, but the Premier League would need to scrap their season for that to happen.

The EFL are provisionally planning to start the 2020/21 season on the first weekend in September, possibly scrapping the Carabao Cup for one season.

But next season wii be unusual too. Fans are unlikely to be able to access stadiums before January.

So how will clubs price and market season tickets? The EFL are expected to allow clubs to stream their home games live, so possibly season tickets will allow free access to the stream.

But, how will clubs price tickets? Will fans buy season tickets without knowing when they will actually see a live game?

Hopefullyā€ˇ, all clubs will manage to stay afloat during these uncertain times, but financially challenging times are here for sure.
