The shape of things to come

It becomes more and more obvious with each passing day, just how devastating an effect Coronavirus is having on football.

Apart from the elite few, every club will experience  s‎evere financial problems, and it will be a miracle if some do not go to the wall.

‎There is talk that spectators will not be admitted to games until January. If that happened there would be an avalanche of clubs facing extinction. Many lower league clubs need the money from season ticket sales to get them through the summer.

One scenario being seriously considered for next season is amalgamating Leagues One and Two, then splitting the team’s into Northern and Southern Sections.

They would be tough divisions to get out of. The champions of each section would probably be the only teams guaranteed promotion.

The club finishing second  ‎in the Northern section could play the team finishing third in the Southern section, and vice-versa. The two winners would meet in the final at Wembley to decide the third promotion slot..

One thing is for sure, football will never be the same again.
