The Bromley fans view…
The Bromley fans view…

As a Bromley fan life in our second season in The National League brings lots of new experiences, even when you have been going to Hayes Lane for 39 years.

There are still things you haven’t seen before and on Saturday there will be another landmark for myself when I watch The Ravens play live on TV in their match away to Macclesfield Town.

I wasn’t’ going to Macclesfield, I had Cray Wanderers V  East Grinstead Town written on my calendar back in July with the added bonus of reporting on it for KSN, since my son was born six and half years ago I’ve pretty much watched and reported on 95% of my Saturday football at Hayes Lane, while my good friend Mash Hewitt covers The Ravens on the road, but as luck would have it I can now do a double header of sorts.

Bromley’s game at Moss Rose kicks off at 12.15pm, which leaves enough time to then head down to Hayes Lane for the afternoon’s entertainment and do a match report for this fine website.

Luckily for most Bromley fans who had already booked their train tickets ‎before BT switched the kick off, they were scheduled to arrive by noon.

Bromley did feature on BT Sport once last season at home to Altrincham, but I was there watching the disappointing 3-1 defeat from the terraces and jotting down notes for my report, whilst recording it at home. When I watched the game back later on I was quite pleased I had reported the major incidents how they had a happened, but aside from that it seemed very surreal to have Peter Taylor and Kevin Davies dissecting our defensive frailties while standing on the Hayes Lane pitch.

BT covered all the main points of Bromley’s famous residents, HG Wells, Charles Darwin, David Bowie and Pixie Lott, but disappointingly  they failed to mention Billy Idol or it being the birthplace of Punk Rock. The main player they featured was Moses Emmanuel who was on his way to 20 goals for the season, now sadly for us at another National League side from Kent.

On Saturday lunchtime I will sit back on the sofa with my son and watch our team play live in HD on an internationally broadcast TV station, looking on with interest on who they feature as our main players, what Neil Smith says and hoping that we give a better account for ourselves that we did last November.

Then it will be back to reality, down to Hayes Lane and taking our place in the stand for our second team Cray Wanderers Ryman League Division One South game as They make their bid for the play offs.
