Taylor – Welling were second best
Taylor – Welling were second best

It was a tough afternoon on the road for Welling United when defeated at Bath City. Peter Taylor, the Welling manager, accepted that his team was second best.

“I think, probably a deserved result by Bath.” he said. “I thought they played better than us over the ninety minutes.”

“I didn’t think that we started the game very well and I think that we were quite fortunate not to concede early doors but I think that overall, the longer the game went on, we improved but I still think that probably, it was a fair result.”

He suggested that he was not too annoyed with his team saying “The boys have done absolutely superb after the first game that I’ve been involved in at Oxford. We are a different team. We’re a lot better than that. We didn’t show as much as I would have liked to have seen of that today but overall we’re still a much better team and some of the things that we did in the second half were encouraging.”

Even though both Bath goals were unstoppable efforts they had other chances and Taylor confirmed that was an issue saying “We’ve got to cut out the things where we don’t defend corners well enough and we don’t defend things well enough and give ourselves problems.”

However, Welling did improve considerably after going behind but conceded a second on  the break and did not score until deep into injury team. Taylor said “It’s a little bit of a shame that we didn’t get the goal earlier because then, of course, Bath would have had a nervous period at that time but overall, there’s no excuses from us, we’ve improved since five weeks ago but we didn’t do as well today.”

Next Saturday, the Wings host Tonbridge Angels and Taylor said “We’ve got to bounce back. That’s the aim. We’ll have a good positive week and try and bounce back.”
