Tale of two races for Dixon
Tale of two races for Dixon

It was an up and down weekend for Dover’s Jake Dixon in the latest round of the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship from Brands Hatch.Jake Dixon - Brands Hatch - Jon Jessop

Being his local track Jake will have gone into the weekend to try and net two good results for the team and in front of his home fans.

Unfortunately for Dixon it wasn’t too be, it didn’t get off to the best of starts when he crashed in qualifying at Westfield. His elbow which he injured at a previous round took a further battering which didn’t help the young rider.

Undeterred he was out on the grid and ready to try and finish with some good points on Saturday afternoon in the sprint race. He was doing well and looking racey and battling well to keep hold of his fifth place, when on lap nine he crashed again at Druids.

Feeling a bit bruised and battered Jake was back out there on the grid on Sunday, and talking about getting a good result for his team on the grid.

That is exactly what he did on his Triumph, from the start he got away well and moved up to fourth place, before slipping down one and battling for the majority of the race for fifth and sixth places, the battle for those places was ultra-competitive.

The sixth place finish leaves him sitting in fourth place overall in the championship heading into the next round at Thruxton at the end of the month.

Giving his thoughts after a tough weekend, Jake said: I struggled a bit this weekend with set-up and with my elbow already sore from Knockhill, I didn’t help the situation with the two crashes yesterday.

“The team did a great job, as always, and although sixth isn’t where I want to be, it was good to get a finish under my belt. My injured team-mate Graeme Gowland was a great help this weekend and we’ll look to get me feeling more comfortable on the bike in a test session before the next round.”
