Swindon Town vs Charlton Athletic – Preview

After another bewildering day in the seemingly endless takeover saga, it will be good to have a match to focus on.

Paul Elliott released an open letter to fans on Thursday that did little to convince them that he is the right man to own their club. Danish born, Colorado based businessman, Thomas Sandgaard, remains the fans’ favourite.

Lee Bowyer will ramp things up a notch for the Carabao Cup match at Swindon on Saturday, the last game before the league campaign kicks-off at Crewe in a week’s time.

He will restore Ben Amos, Darren Pratley, Jake Forster-Caskey, Alfie Doughty and Macauley Bonne‎ to the starting line-up, and Chuks Aneke and Alex Gilbey may make appearances from the bench.

‎Here is what Bowyer had to say: “Pratley will come back in and the three lads on the bench that came on the other day will start, we’ll be a lot stronger. “But I said after the (Wimbledon) game that it’s not like we left eleven at home – we left four and two were injured.

“We’ll bring Ben back in goal. Gilbey has just been struggling with his stomach but that seems to have settled down now and we’ll see over the next couple of days if he gets through it.

“Chuks should be back training. Both of them won’t start but will hopefully be on the bench.”

The Addicks will be without‎ Conor Washington and Johnny Williams, who are away on international duty, otherwise the manager will have his strongest squad to pick from.

Brett Huxtable from Devon will be the referee.

Bowyer will be looking for a positive performance and result from his team. Avid programme collectors will be disappointed to hear that Swindon will not be issuing a programme for the match.‎ AFC Wimbledon did not publish one for Tuesday’s game either.

Less surprisingly, there ‎were no programmes issued for the Birmingham, Southend and Crystal Palace friendly games.

These are extraordinary times, but there are indications that the much loved matchday programme is being phased out.
