Sutton United v Bromley preview

Bromley’s hectic National League campaign continues on Tuesday night as they make the short trip over to Surrey for a derby match against second placed Sutton United.

The Ravens go into the match against their old rivals having beaten Altrincham 3-1 at home on Saturday courtesy of first half goals from Joe Kizzi and a double from Michael Cheek, taking his tally for fourteen for the season so far.

The victory took Neil Smith’s side up to ninth in the table with 34 points from 23 games, three points off the play offs places, having only lost once in their last five matches.

Sutton sit in second on a great run of form, winning their last four National League games. On Saturday they won 2-1 at Dagenham & Redbridge, Harry Beautyman scoring both, the winner coming from an injury time penalty.

The only defeat for United in February came at the hands of Woking, a 1-0 home loss in the FA Trophy.

The sides have already met at Gander Green Lane this season with Bromley progressing 1-0 in the FA Cup thanks to a Michael Cheek penalty back in October.

The Ravens also won there in the league last season 2-0 with goals from Ben Williamson and & Luke Coulson, while the return at Hayes Lane just before lockdown in February finished in a 1-0 win for Sutton with former Bromley man Omar Bugiel scoring.

Matt Gray’s side have two former Bromley strikers in their squad this season with Bugiel being joined by Tobi Sho-Silva, who had a good season with The Ravens back in 2016/17.

Smith will be without defender Chris Bush who was sent off against Altrincham and now faces another ban following a previous red card at Weymouth last month.

Winger Harry Forster has also returned to Watford, his loan spell ending having been ruled out for the season following an injury picked up against Dagenham, but centre back Byron Webster should be ok to return from the injury which ruled him out of the last two matches.

There is always an extra bit of spice to these games, although that may be somewhat diluted by the lack of supporters, there is a lot to play for with both teams looking to maintain their hopes of the play offs and in Sutton’s case automatic promotion.

The match will be played behind closed doors as per the current Covid 19 restrictions, but supporters can view the game via a live stream for £9.50, details on how to purchase this are on the Sutton Utd website.
