Sutton United 0-2 Bromley

Bromley picked up a vital win away at local rivals Sutton with a goal in either half to stay second in the National League on Saturday afternoon.

With Sam Wood, Reeco Hackett-Fairchild joining the injured list, manager Neil Smith made changes to the side and gave striker Ben Williamson his debut, with Rarmani Edmonds-Green at left back.

In went and windy conditions the game got off to fast pace start with the home side pressing. Collins had a header saved from a corner by Ryan Huddart and John headed over from the following deal ball.

With Sutton having most of the ball, Bromley took the lead with their first real attack when a Chris Bush free kick was saved by Tzanev who also blocked the rebound, but he was unable to prevent the third attempt with Williamson pouncing to score from close range on his debut for the Ravens.

The game opened up from there with play going from end to end and developing a more physical edge. Late in the half Michael Cheek fired an effort across goal before Joe Kizzi has a header saved from a corner, but the score remained 0-1 at the break.

The second half saw Sutton come out flying again, Eastmond chipped a shot wide from distance and Collins had a shot saved by Huddart following a corner, with the ball eventually being scrambled away.

United had a series of corners as they pressed for an equaliser with Cheek making a superb block from one melee in the six yard box.

The home side’s best move came when Wright and Ajiboye linked up to set up Harry Beautyman, but he headed wide.

Ajiboye wasted a good chance soon after as he shot across goal after a good run. Beautyman went close with a free kick, while a rare break for Bromley saw Luke Coulson put an Adam Mekki cross over from six yards out.

Eastmond had a shot deflected over before The Ravens struck again on the counter attack, Coulson won the ball from Collins and played in Cheek who raced clear before coolly slotting the ball past Tzanev to make it 0-2 with 12 minutes to play.

The Ravens had a good spell of pressure from corners late on, while in injury time Sutton had one last chance when Jarvis shot wide from the edge of the box.

This was a disciplined hard working display from Neil Smith’s Bromley, defending well and taking their chances to get the job done.
