Successful weekend for Dixon at Aberdare
Successful weekend for Dixon at Aberdare

Ryan Dixon was a regular visitor to the top step of the podium at the Aberdare Park Road Races last weekend in what would be described as scorching heat.

On Saturday he won the four races that he took place in and although Sunday didn’t quite go to plan, it was a successful weekend for Dixon, and he brings us up-to-date with his race weekend.

“Saturday went perfectly to plan, winning all four races I started. It wasn’t as straight forward as it sounds, Andy Smart kept me very honest all day but my strong starting got me away in front and I knew if I could just be super precise and defend well in the right places it would be very hard to pass as we were running a very similar pace.

“Sunday didn’t quite end how we hoped. A second in the heat race after getting caught off guard by a back marker on the last lap, allowing Andy past with half a lap to go. Supersport final was going great until a brake issue forced to slow up and nurse it home in second. Unfortunately there was just a ten minute parade between that and the second leg of the Welsh open final.

“We changed the pads and bled the fluid as best we could in the time available but sadly the issue would occur again about half way through the next race and I had to cruise home, dropping me to fourth overall. We worked out the issue and changed it for the invitational race at the end of the day which I managed to win from 11th on the grid (after picking start position out of a hat). A good end to the weekend but sadly no third Welsh open title this year.

“Andy was a very deserving winner if it couldn’t be me, so a big congratulations to him, he pushed me all weekend and I finally managed to break the outright lap record after all these years although it only lasted about two laps before he bettered it. We were both on lap record pace most of the day today so shows how much we were pushing on!

“Thank you to the whole team who put on the races, the Marshalls medics and media team. Really turning it into a fantastic event with great exposure.

“Finally, a big thank you to Paul and the Trickbits team for the opportunity to ride their bikes again and giving me something competitive to fight with. We win as a team and lose as a team. We’ve learnt from our mistakes and we’ll come back fighting next time out .”
