Hill and his AMD Tuning team and teammate Graham Coomes headed to the iconic Belgium circuit Spa-Francorchamps, and it was an excellent weekend overall with a third place finish.

Running in the top three for both sessions – despite Hill never having seen the circuit before – the Kent-based pairing were confident of qualifying near the front of the 17-car GT4 pack.

Frustratingly though a technical problem meant that the car was unable to complete any laps, forcing them to start the two-hour race from the very back of the field.

Speaking about the weekend, Team boss Shaun Hollamby said: “Both the driver’s showed excellent pace in practice – Graham knows the track well from racing in the Belcar series here – and Jake has shown he can learn tracks very quickly – and the team have got the car working really well, so it’s really frustrating but we know we have good race-pace.”Jake Hill - Spa - PSP Images

From the outset Coomes was on form, slicing past car after car in his 50 minute stint, working his way up to a remarkable fourth place before one of the Ginetta G55’s ahead had engine failure, dropping a huge amount of oil just ahead of Coomes, causing him to skate off the circuit and narrowly miss the armco at the fast Pif-Paf corner, dropping to ninth in class in the process.

Shortly afterwards the team called him in to re-fuel and to change to hand over to Hill, the team and Coomes timing things perfectly to enter the pits within seconds of the pit stop window opening, and with it see the No.49 machine exit the pits in third place!

Hill set about putting in quick and consistent lap times, his best of 2m38.363 being the fastest lap for much of the race, only being eclipsed late on, but in sweltering conditions 21-year old BRDC Rising Star put in a faultless drive, the team scoring their first podium of 2015.Jake Hill - Spa 1 - PSP Images

Giving his thoughts after an excellent weekend, Hill said: “Last week I raced in the Porsche Supercup at the British Grand Prix, this week we have taken a podium at Spa-Francorchamps on mine and the team’s first time here – two Grand Prix circuits in less than a week – and both incredible expereinces. I can’t thank the team enough for their hard work this weekend and to our sponsors – AmD, Sportif Motor Group, Borderland Fencing, Fujifilm, JEP Photography, Octane and everyone else who has helped.

“Standing on the podium with Graham at Spa in the sunshine with the team rewarded for their efforts, we couldn’t be happier”

The season now moves onto Hill’s home track of Brands Hatch over the first weekend of August, and Hill and the team will be looking to continue their good form in front of their home fans.
