Stephy Mavididi joins Addicks on loan

Arsenal’s 19-year-old attacking midfielder-cum-strker, Stephy Mavididi, has rejoined the Addicks on loan until the end of the season.

Mavididi played five games for ‎Charlton last season before a serious hamstring injury brought his campaign to a prematue end.

Mavididi’s 70-yard run at Rochdale was breathtaking to watch, though he has yet to score a senior goal.

‎He is likely to start his latest stint at The Valley on the bench, with Karl Robinson looking to bring him on as an impact sub in the second half.

Robinson will now turn his attention to recruiting an out-and-out striker. One of his top targets is Ipswich’s Kiefer Moore.

Moore has scored 13 goals on loan at Rotherham this season, but has been recalled by the Tractor Boys.

Ipswich have agreed a fee with Peterborough, and Moore is likely to make a permanent switch to London Road. The deal is being held up over a dispute on how the fee will be paid though.

Here are Robinson’s thoughts on Mavididi:

‎”I am really looking forward to working with Stephy again. He is such a talented player and we only got to see a glimpse of what he could do last time he was here.

“I’ve watched him a lot since he’s come back from injury and he is a phenomenal talent. I don’t think it is any secret that we wanted to bring him in over the summer

“The fans will have seen how quick, powerful and skilful he is from his first spell with us. He is a Championship quality player already and he comes to Charlton now with a point to prove.”

‎Mavididi moved to Preston on loan in the summer, but the move did not work out for him. Here are his thoughts about returning to The Valley:

‎”I’m looking forward to coming back and enjoying my football again. I want to pick up where I left off at Charlton and help the club to achieve promotion.

“I really enjoyed my time here last season and, for any young player moving club, it is always easier when you go somewhere that you know people and I hope that I can settle back in straight away.”
