Steele secures F2 test session

Aaron Steele has won a test in an FIA Formula Two Championship car at the end of a highly successful season in the MSV F3 Cup.

The award comes after clinching the Sunoco Grand Am 200 Challenge, which will see Steele from Rochester compete in the support race to the 24 Hours of Daytona next January.

“After a mixed Oulton Park weekend, mechanical problems prevented a usual flowing weekend, but receiving the Formula Two test was a really great moment,” said Steele.

“I had mechanical problems in race 1, so it all came down to getting a great result in race 2,” he explained. “Starting last I knew it was going to be a fun challenge. I got off to a fantastic start and by the end of the first lap was up to fourth place; on lap 4 I took the lead and never looked back, building up almost a 40 second gap between myself and the second place finisher, not bad after starting last.”

The F2 test is set to take place at either Barcelona or Jerez in December, and Steel is looking forward to the opportunity.

“During the podium presentation the announcer said ‘and the winner of the Formula Two test drive’, at which point there was a massive bigger cheer from all the crowd watching. I wasn’t expecting it to be announced at that point and it was a bit of a shock but it just added to the great win I just had and was the cherry on top of a great season,”

“I can’t wait to put the F2 car through its paces, it’s going to be much quicker than the F3 car I’m used to but I’m sure I can adapt well as I have done previously when I tested an A1GP car.”
