Stansfeld v Corinthian preview
Stansfeld v Corinthian preview

Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division football returns to Eltham on Wednesday evening when Stansfeld host Corinthian.

Both teams have started slowly this season. After four matches Stansfeld have just three points, while Corinthian are joint bottom of the fledgeling table with a solitary point.

On Saturday, Stansfeld were heavily beaten at Holmesdale. By half time it was four-nil to the hosts through goals by Alfie Clark, a Lewis Heywood-Oriogun brace and a further strike by Nathaniel Murray just before the break. Heywood-Oriogun completed his hat-trick just after the hour mark, and Clark added his second with under fifteen minutes remaining. In the last eight minutes, Sam Plant scored a brace for Stansfeld but it was too little too late.

Meanwhile, the Hoops went down in a tight home game against Holland and Blairs. The hosts went ahead in the seventh minute through Ross Obazee but Josh Oliver levelled just shy of the hour mark. Charlie Weston won it for the visitors with a goal in the seventy-first minute.

In the two meetings last season, it was Corinthian that had the upper hand. In the home game hosted by the Hoops, there were no goals in the first half but Lorenzo Duncan put them ahead a minute after the break. Oscar Housego gave them breathing space when converting a penalty eleven minutes from time. However, Nathan Asiedu pulled one back three minutes later to make for a nervy finish.

Then, in the return match in December, Stansfeld looked to be on their way to victory through Rob Hughes’ goal scored two minutes before half time. They held that lead until five minutes remained when Housego levelled. Four minutes later, Henry Arnold put the visitors ahead and Oscar Webb ensured victory for them in stoppage time.

Although some of the teams above have played more matches, both teams will be keen to start picking up points to ease them away from the lower places in the table.
