Maidstone’s Ethan Sparks was crowned the first ever rookie 2025 R&G British Talent Cup champion in his first season in the series at Oulton Park.

Sparks just had to finish ninth or better in the final race of the weekend, which was delayed. He didn’t want to settle for that though and he was right up the front racing for the win from the off.
He crossed the line in second place, having taken that position in the final corner. His drive to the line was so good the youngster only missed out on the win by 0.020 of a second, finishing just behind his title rival, City Lifting Team’s Filip Surowiak to take the title in the final race of the year.
It followed a dramatic 10-lap race, where Sparks, Surowiak and Ryan Frost fought for the lead and swapped positions all the way, joined also by Mason Foster and Jack Dunabie.

On the final lap, Surowiak – who came into the race 18 points adrift of his young rival – took the lead from a flying Frost who had led quite a lot of the race. Sparks was running third and already had the title in hand, but the rookie made a move on Frost at Lodge to take second position as he powered over the line to celebrate title glory.
Speaking after the race a delighted Sparks said: “I’m so happy, it’s my first year and I’ve come in and won it.

“It was a good race, I knew I wanted to stay around third the whole race, stay out of trouble, make sure that I didn’t get in any accidents…I’m super happy, it’s been a great year.”
Sparks had an impressive six wins and seven places across the season. In 2026 he will be heading to race in the Redbull Rookies.
