Southport v Welling United preview

Once again, Welling United travel north on Saturday with a visit to Southport.Welling United

It will be the second successive weekend that they come up against a team with a recently appointed manager. They were not too concerned last weekend when they ended Nuneaton Town’s mini revival with a resounding victory.

After Gary Brabin took over, Southport played out a 3-3 draw at home to Lincoln City after being 3-1 down then they claimed a very impressive result at Braintree Town with a 2-0 win. Their second goal was scored by Walsall loanee Amadou Bakayoko who may be one to look out for.

Harry Beautyman and Tyrone Marsh each scored twice for Welling against Nuneaton and will hope to continue their rich vein of form. Beautyman is second in the Vanarama Conference Premier scoring charts whilst Marsh has scored five times in the last seven games.

Jake Gallagher travelled to Turkey and represented England C in their two-nil defeat meaning they cannot qualify for the latter stages of the International Challenge Trophy.

Two strikers coming back from injury got some playing time in Welling’s midweek Kent Senior Cup tie with Tonbridge Angels. Charlie Penny and Kieron St. Aimie played the first 55 minutes and will increase the competition up front. The three substitutes who did not play last weekend, Jonathan Henly, Sam Corne and Jon Nouble all played the full 90 minutes, as did Malik Ouani, recalled from his loan spell at Walton Casuals.

It appears that the injury sustained by Loui Fazakerley at Kidderminster may keep him out for a lengthy spell and Tobi Sho-Silva is unlikely to feature in the near future. Chris Bush will also be unable to participate at Southport as he continues his suspension.

Both sides will be eager to move away from the bottom four so it promises to be a keenly fought battle.
