Southall makes shock departure
Southall makes shock departure

After an extraordinary and chaotic night at The Valley, it appears Tahnoon Nimer has removed Matt Southall from his role of Executive Chairman.

Nimer’s legal team, accompanied by safety officer, Mick Everett, club ‎journalist, Olly Groome and player liaison officer, Tracey Leaburn confronted Southall at The Valley.

Southall retaliated by “sacking” all three of the club’s employees. Police were called and Southall eventually left. Nimer later took to social media to confirm Southall had left the club.

It was an unbelievable series of events and we will have to wait and see what repercussions today brings.

The EFL still need to be satisfied about the club’s funding before they lift the transfer embargo.

How Lee Bowyer can prepare his squad for the vital game at Hull on Saturday with all that is going on in the background I do not know.

The Addicks will then entertain QPR on Tuesday, before travelling to Cardiff next Saturday. Before then, the FA are likely to make a statement about how the game will deal with the coronavirus outbreak. It may be that games will soon have to be staged behind closed doors.

So as an incredible week draws to a close, much has happened. As recently as Tuesday Southall was hugely popular amongst the fan base. By Thursday he was one of the most reviled characters in the club’s history.

Hopefully things will now settle down and we can concentrate on the on field matters again. After all, Charlton face a desperate battle to maintain their hard fought Championship status.
