Faversham Town 2-0 Horsham

Faversham welcomed bottom of the table Horsham to Salters lane on Saturday hoping to secure a place in the Ryman league division 1 south play off.Faversham vs Horsham

The home side settled into their stride early on and were first to threaten when pressing, left back Ashley Brown created a chance for Josh Stanford but he shot just wide when cutting in from the left.

Shortly afterwards Faversham had another chance, a short goal kick by visiting keeper Garath Williams was headed into the path of Dean Grant who shot well over from the right angle when his shot should have at least forced the keeper into a save.

The home side were attacking at will as the visitors were constantly giving away possession cheaply and it was surely a matter of time before the hosts scored, Grant was next to go close, forcing the keeper to tip over from a long punt up field. The visitors really were holding on, showing why they were bottom of the table, with Charley Robertson the next to go close, shooting over from Jack Harris pull back.

For the visitors, it was becoming a one man show, that of Williams in goal as he thwarted Robertson from finding Jack Harris with 20 minutes gone.

The host would finally take the lead in the 25th minute, Dean Grant running onto a Robertson through ball to slip under the keeper and into the net for a goal they richly deserved. They almost doubled their lead five minutes later, a Horsham centre back putting the ball inches over his own cross bar from Harris header across the box.Faversham vs Horsham 1

As the first half drew to a close, Horsham grew into the game a little and put the home side under pressure without ever creating anything on troubling the keeper as the hosts when in at half time 1-0 up.

Two minutes into the second half and Faversham had the away keeper stretched again, Wayne Wilson curling a free kick towards the bottom right corner, which the keeper pushed behind for a corner, The resulting corner was headed over the bar by John Scarborough.

Chances were coming for the home side and from another set piece, David Botterill headed over from around the penalty spot.

The away side were indebted to their keeper again on 55 minutes, Josh Stanford and Jack Harris combining to send Stanford through one on one, the keeper coming out to smother the shot well.

The hosts were still creating all the chances and were being gifted them on a plate, After Robertson had blocked a clearance into the path of Jack Harris, He swept past his defender with ease before shooting past the keeper before it was blocked on the line by the combination of the Horsham right back Jack Hope and Faversham striker Dean Grant.

Horsham were still attacking fleetingly and Tony Nwachukwu was inches away from connecting to a low cross from the right by Bailo Kamara.

With the game petering out, the lilywhites forced the keeper into a low save down to his left from a Harris header from a right wing corner before finally making the game safe with three minutes remaining. Matt Bourne rising highest to flick home into the far corner from Wilson’s right wing free kick.

Ashley Brown whistled a left foot shot past the post as we entered stoppage time before Wilson had a shot saved after sub Jack Sullivan shot was deflected into his path.

They should have scored a third with the last kick of the game but Dean Grant fired over. The hosts would therefore have to settle for two however for another comfortable home victory at Salters Lane, giving them a real chance to join Burgess Hill town in the Ryman Premier League. The defeat also meant that Horsham were unfortunately relegated.
