Solid weekend for Ovenden
Solid weekend for Ovenden

Looking to put the gremlins from the opening rounds behind Tristan Ovenden and his red and yellow team headed over the Irish sea to Mondello Park for the next double header of the 2025 5 Nations British Rallycross Championship.

This time doing battle with the Irish Rallycross championship. A Circuit that historically Ovenden has gone well at.

The weather all weekend was changeable making the track conditions challenging. In turn making the racing a fantastic spectacle but meant that the tyre choice was a lottery at times and the Goody Backed driver found himself a less than ideal position for the final, lining up on the outside of the third row with everything to do. Despite pushing the car to the limits, and making up a place early on, the fuel issue returned and Ovenden had to relinquish the place later in the race.

Sunday saw better track conditions. The Witham Motorsport supported driver gradually built on solid and consistent lap times getting faster and faster. Cumulating in a heat win and fifth overall place for qualifying 3. A third row start for the final this time seeing him finish as 6th place British driver. An improving weekend saw the Kent based driver score valuable championship points.

In the Team Championship, however, the weekend saw Ovenden and his teammate Julian Godfrey clinch the team win on Saturday and continued to score valuable points on Sunday. Putting them only a few points behind the lead.

Speaking after the racing, Ovenden said: “You know, it was very tough weekend. The Irish competitors have been round here a lot and keep finding the speed. I think if you look at the winner of either day shows that they have upped their game, so coming in once a year is getting tougher. That said we were pretty solid, and that certainly helped us get to the Team win on Saturday. Very pleased with that.

“Sunday was a similar approach, trying to be consistent we did a win out heat in Qualifying 3, which is always nice. Thanks very much for the support from our sponsors, and to the team that put themselves out to come all that way, it’s really appreciated. Overall, we are happy with a good points weekend.

Will Ovenden was looking to build on his great start in the Cross Cart After some solid and consistent driving the Kent youngster drove his Digger Sim backed cart to continued growth in this new class for him. Notching up a 6th and a 4th placed finish for the weekend.
