Snodland Town 2-0 Stansfeld
Snodland Town 2-0 Stansfeld

Snodland Town played their first match ever at Step 5 and made history with an emphatic victory over Stansfeld and confidence will be high as next week they are in the FA Cup for the first time.

Snodland only had a few players from last year and had assembled a strong squad which hopefully will keep them in the division while off field they are hoping to put a 3/4G pitch in and a covered stand for 100 supporters as well as doing the car park up, things are looking rosy for this progressive club.

Snodland started the better and in the 5th minute had their first half chance when Francis Babalola on the left saw his cross from the by-line find Emmanuel Oleyede (just signed from Chatham) but from 6 yards his header went over the bar.

In the 14th minute a ball into the area found Karl Dent and as he tried to turn was fouled and a penalty was given, up stepped skipper Ben Davisson he stroked the ball into the bottom right hand corner to score Snodland’s first ever goal at this new level.

Four minutes later Oleyede on halfway ran forward and put Matt Getthin in on the left and he cut in and from 15 yards saw his weak shot go past the post.

Another chance came in the 23rd minute when Taylor Fisher on the overlap on the left saw his cross into the 6 yard area find Getthin but he headed over the bar.

In the 30th minute Babalola saw his header at the back post saved and two minutes later Oleyede on the right saw his shot from an acute angle come back off the post.

Finally all this pressure told and Snodland got their second when Dent passed out wide for Getthin and his first time cross evaded Charlie Cotterall and was bundled in by a defender under pressure from Babalola.

Snodland continued to press forward and in the 37th minute Dent on the edge of the area received the ball and his curling effort went just over the bar.

Half time arrived and everything was going to plan for the Yellows.

The second half started with Snodland still controlling the game and in the 48th minute Babalola cross into the area found Dent on the edge and his shot went straight to Getthin but from 3 yards his shot was saved by Cotterall.

In the 56th minute another glorious chance came when Dent put Getthin in on goal but his shot from 18 yards was saved.

Thirteen minutes later Babalola put Dent in on goal and he tried to go round Cotterall but lost the ball trying and it was hacked clear.

In the 75th minute it could have three when Oleyede in the area saw his acute angled shot cleared off the line.

The rest of the game saw Snodland cruising to victory and at the final whistle as the Stansfeld players left the field, their defenders blamed the attackers for this defeat, but in reality Snodland were the best team on the day and fully deserved the victory.
