Slough Town 1-0 Welling United

Welling’s win-less run continued with another odd goal defeat, this time on the road at Slough Town.

There were no shots on target or even corners in the first half and one goal scored by Substitute Ben Harris fifteen minutes from the end proved to be sufficient.

It took half an hour for either side to even register a goal attempt and there wasn’t a single corner in a first period that was short of real action but not in offsides and fouls.

Nnamdi Nwachuku was handed a Welling debut and was one of a number of team changes following the team’s poor performance on Saturday.

Warren Harris eventually got a shot away for Slough but it was from a tight angle and went across the face of goal before a half hearted effort by George Wells went wide of the near post.

Harris had a close range shot blocked as far as Max Worsfold but he fired over from fifteen yards.

Five minutes were left in the first half when Nwachuku spun on the edge of the box but shot just wide.

Immediately after the interval, Slough went close when Worsfold broke through but Dan Wilks was out quickly to make a good block.

Josh Jackman shot wide of the far post before Matt Lench had a header saved easily by Wilks.

Ben Harris came on and headed just wide within moments however it was he who was to score the vital goal five minutes later. Worsfold whipped in a cross and Harris did the rest with a firm header that gave Wilks no chance.

Worsfold almost created another soon after but when Warren Harris met his free kick with a first time effort it flew just over.

As the game entered the latter stages, Welling at last showed some urgency and created some opportunities. First Connor Dymond drew a save out of Jack Turner before they came desperately close. Gavin McCallum slung over a cross that Nathan Green met first time but Turner was in the right place at the right time and it hit him and flew out to safety.

There was still time for them to create one more chance but Jay Rich-Baghuelou headed over from Joe Anderson’s cross.
