Sittingbourne’s twenty-six match unbeaten League run at the Staxson Stadium came to an end on Saturday in the most disappointing way possible as rivals and near neighbours Faversham Town netted three times and took the three points back down the A2 to the Aquatherm.
Two goals from top scorer Tashi-Jay Kwayie and a third from big striker Eniye Ambaduba who was a handful for the home side throughout cancelled out Henry Sinai’s sensational first half free-kick – a contender surely for the Brickies goal of the season award – as Faversham gained a modicum of revenge for being dumped out of the FA Trophy by the Brickies six weeks ago – a game that is only one of two defeats that the Lilywhites have suffered since their promotion back to Step Four in May.
The visitors were quickest out of the blocks and from a long throw into the Sittingbourne area, Kwayie reacted quickest to head home his sixteenth goal of the season after Kieron Campbell had already had a chance that he shot straight at Mitch Beeney.
The Brickies clawed their way back into the game and when they were awarded a free-kick nearly thirty yards out, Sinai’s execution was deadly as his effort totally deceived Roshan Greensall in the visitor’s goal and flew into the top corner of the net.
Both keepers then received let offs – Beeney when Amgbaduba beat him to a bouncing ball to head over and Greensall when he lost possession to Troy Howard outside of his box only to be very fortunate to see the Brickies on-loan winger stumble with the goal at his mercy allowing the keeper to fortunately to get a foot in to deny the chance.
Greensall kept his side level though just before the break with a sensational save to deny Chris Arthur’s header after Yannis Ambrosine had helped on Jack Steventon’s long throw, and the visitors capitalised on their keepers good work by retaking the lead early in the second half after some poor defending saw Amgbaduba drill home from the edge of the box, Beeney getting his right hand to the ball but failing to keep the ball out.
Kwayie then netted his seventeenth goal of the season as the home side piled forward increasingly searching for an equaliser that didn’t come. Sinai, Derek Asamoah and Dsean Theobalds all having efforts that didn’t really test the keeper and but for a horrendous miss from Amgbaduba the victory margin would have been greater.
Not that that would have mattered to the Brickies as their long proud unbeaten run at the Staxson had gone.
