Sittingbourne 0-3 Faversham Town

Faversham came away with the glory in the Swale derby with an emphatic 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.

This was also their first victory of the League season and kept their unbeaten start to the league season while for Sittingbourne it is their second defeat of the league season.

The game was a bit scrappy and the first half chance of the game came in the 8th minute when Andy Drury’s free kick from 25 yards was easily saved by Luke Watkins.

Then a minute later Faversham took the lead when another Lewis Chambers long throws into the area forced Jordan Perrin to punch clear but it came to Joe Denny who from 8 yards smacked home.

Faversham were now in control without really creating much. In the 20th minute Sittingbourne had a half chance to equalise when a free kick into the area was half cleared to Drury who crossed into the area for Lex Allen but his header went wide.

Nine minutes later Nkori Bola 25 yards out received the ball and his first time shot went wide.

The final chance of the half came in the first minute off added on time when a free kick into the Sittingbourne area saw Harry Harding’s header go just past the post.

The second half took a while to get going & then in the 66th minute Faversham doubled their lead and put the game to rest when Harding on the left wing beat the defender, his low cross to the near post saw Sam Bewick flick it in from three yards.

Faversham were now in complete control and did not give Sittingbourne any real chances. It became three in the 84th minute when Stephen Okoh received the ball in the area & from 15 yards he shot past Perrin, in the 89th minute Okoh on the right saw his cross find Bewick but from 8 yards his header went just past the post.

A minute later Sittingbourne nearly got a consolation goal when Harry Goodger flicked on a long ball for Drury whose overhead kick from 18 yards went just over the bar.

Faversham could and maybe should have scored a couple more in added on time when in the third minute Okoh in the area turned the defender but from 12 yards shot over the bar & then in the fifth minute of added on time Michael Hagen’s low cross to the near post saw Harding’s flicked shot go over the bar.

The final whistle went and the Faversham players celebrated with their fans whilst the Sittingbourne players disappeared quickly knowing that was not a great performance.
