A gloomy Silverstone set the scene for the British GT’s headline event, The Silverstone 500.

The usual protagonist were joined by a number of extra entries, one of which was an additional Mclaren 650s GT3 run by Von Ryan racing – who had won the Blancpain Endurance race at the track just 7 days earlier so all eyes were on the Mclarens on if they could repeat there recent run of form.

Qualifying the day before, would see the new Von Ryan racing pair of Gilles Vannelet and GP2 race winner, Adrian Quaife-Hobbs set the early pace but were pipped to pole by the Beechdean AMR GT3 machine.

With an Aston up front, the Motorbase Astons would go and lock out the third row of the grid, while local man Garry Eastwood in the only Ferrari on the grid, would line the 458 up just outside the top 10, in 11th with the help of Adam Carroll. As for the GT4 contingents, the Oz Yusuf Lotus Evora claimed GT4 pole ahead of the other Beechdean entrant. Jake Hill would line up 7th.

The race would start on a drying track with rain threatening – Just a couple corners in to the 3-hour race, the pole sitting Aston would spin off handing the lead to Von Ryan Mclaren but within just a couple of laps, Vannelet was under increasing pressure from Ahmed Al Harthy in the number 2, Motorbase Aston who had charged from 5th on the grid.

As first pit stops approached, Eastwood in the Ferrari would become one of the races first victims. After a trying start to the race in the damp conditions, he had fallen down the order but when the TF sport GT3 Aston spun at Stowe, Eastwood collected it as he attempted to re-join – ending both of the cars races on the spot.

The consequential safety car period allowed everyone to pit but shuffled the order, marring Quaife-Hobbs back a few positions. The team would eventually take the lead, but due to another safety car, but with only half hour remaining, they would have to hold off the charging Triple Eight BMW just beating them by a half second once the 3 hour enduro’ concluded.

With the safety car periods falling during pit cycles, the motorbase Astons would get caught out leaving them with their work cut out. Daniel Lloyd and Al Harthy would claw back to 4th by the end following an aggressive final restart/stint, with the number 6 Motorbase Aston just losing out to the second Von Ryan Mclaren for 5th spot.

Beechdean would once again wrap GT4 honours in front of the Quantamatic Aston of Terry Langley and Mike Hart, who had their car destroyed in a huge accident during practice at Rockingham last time out. Not a bad comeback!

With a couple small offs during the race, the AMD tuning Porsche at the hands of Jake Hill would come home 9th of the GT4 teams which resulted in a top 20 overall!

Formula 4 would play as the leading support for British GT once again with local racer, Tom Jackson looking to continue from his successful Sunday at Rockingham last time out.

And as at Rockingham, they would manage to qualify and get race 1 in the dry but weather would play a factor in the second race of the weekend on the Sunday. Tom would find himself starting 7th for race 1 in which he would battle through to just outside the podium, to 4th.

On an even drying track, race 2 would get underway on Sunday morning with Tom starting 5th. After a lengthy battle with team-mate Omar Ismail for positions in the top 5, Tom would quickly find his feet as the track dried with every lap run – And with a feeling of deja vu, Jackson would pick his way up to second and hunt down the leader, finishing within a couple car length of the eventual winner – in identical fashion to how his race two at Rockingham went down – just with a much better starting position!

With another result like that, Tom’s first win is just a matter of time. With confidence levels at a high, he would find himself starting 11th on the grid for the his final race of the week, but once involved in the scrapping midfield, he could only progress to 10th – adding yet another strong top 10 finish to help his championship challenge.

The Team HARD racers were all back in action during the Silverstone 500 support with their championship challenger, Howard Fuller leading the teams attack. Fuller qualified 2nd for the first of 2 races the VW racing cup had this weekend.

Simon Rudd would yet again find great qualifying pace and bag him a grid position in the top 10, but within the team, series rookie and Kent racer, Laura Tillett would have problems setting her up for a tricky pair of races with a starting spot on the back of the grid.

Unfortunately, the teams hard work would be for nothing after a disastrous first lap couple laps. Fullers luck would run out on the formation lap with an electrical issue which meant he had to come down pitlane as the field lined up for the start, eventually putting him out of the running.

Simon Rudd would made a decent start but once the field got to Stowe, Rudd lost the rear end in the wet conditions which thankfully he saved without incident but the loss in speed saw him lose numerous positions on his way to Vale/Club. Now deep in the pack through the Club complex, Rudd run out of road in which when he attempted to rejoin made contact with another racer, spinning his VW and taking him truly out of the running.

Team HARD’s highest finisher would come in the form of Michael Epps who claimed 12th after starting 29th on the hugely competitive grid. Laura Tillett would keep her nose clean through the action packed race and finish in the middle of a Team HARD trio in 21st, just behind Marcano.

The race 1 misfortune would mean Fuller and Rudd would have to start way back in the pack leaving them with a lot of work to do, but with the track now dry they would slowly pick through the field.

Howard Fuller would progress all the way up to 8th by the end, finishing as the top HARD car aswell, with Epps putting another mark in the top 10 finish tally. Simon Rudd would salvage his day and claim 12th after his mornings troubles. Tillett would make more progress and finish her weekend with a 16th place finish – 9 places ahead of where she started her day.

The British GT paddock are next in action across the channel at the legendary Spa Francorchamps circuit where racers will get another go on a Grand Prix circuit.
