Sian expecting another big week
Sian expecting another big week

To say it’s been a big week for Punjab United and their manager Chipie Sian doesn’t really do the potential of the last seven days justice.

On Tuesday evening, the Club attended, after being nominated at, the Asian Football awards whist on Monday night, they stunned AFC Croydon Athletic with their first ever Step Four league win over much fancied opponents.

It really was a wonderful twenty-four hours for the Gravesend side as a very happy boss Chipie Sian told us, “We were very happy with the performance on the pitch as in previous home games we had been poor.”

“I have said to you and other in interviews, I really don’t think that we have been good enough, but now as the squad is coming together and had scored more on Monday night, I do think it would have been deserved.”

Punjab led by two stunning free kicks at the break – courtesy of full back Sam Wood and skipper James Bushell, and really could have had more, particularly late on when Croydon were pushing. But anything else than three points for the side would have been so unfair. “We were outstanding,” Sian went on, “We were good at Margate on the Saturday but to come off some of the results we have had and then get a point at Margate and then three on Monday, is amazing.”

“We must now take that into Saturday – Horley Town, the team that knocked out of the Trophy and beat Sittingbourne last week.”

“I don’t think that the Trophy game means anything to me, as we didn’t have our full side that game and were not at the races – disjointed and with injuries definitely and I don’t think that that was the Punjab of Monday or of last year, but they are a good side and have beaten Sittingbourne and Hastings and we really now have to start getting League points are going to finish up in a fight for those points. Horley were better than us on that day, we must better than them Saturday!”
