Shrewsbury Town vs Gillingham – Preview

Gillingham are back in action this weekend in the league as they make the trip to Shrewsbury Town looking to bounce back from their defeat against Scunthorpe United last time out in the league. IMG_1970

They will be buoyed by the EFL Cup giant killing in midweek when they knocked Premiership Watford out after an extra time winner from Bradley Dack, their reward for that is another premiership side in the third round Spurs away.

Jamie O’Hara and Ryan Jackson weren’t risked in the game against Watford as they were carrying knocks, however they could well be fit again in time to join the squad for the trip to the midlands this weekend.

Bradley Dack is fit again and will once again be an attacking option in the midfield for manager Justin Edinburgh, who has also added Reading goalkeeper Jonathan Bond on a six month loan deal as competition for Stuart Nelson.

The opposition this weekend Shrewbury Town will not be an easy game for the Gills despite being 20th in the league with four points and having scored just the two goals so far this season.

There is one familiar face in the Shrews squad in the form of defender Adam El-Abd who was on loan with the Gills at the end of last season, and it will be his task to keep the Gills strike force quiet on Saturday afternoon.

The Shrews will also be looking to build momentum having won their last league encounter against Chesterfield 2-1, giving them their first win of the campaign.
