Shrewsbury Town v Gillingham preview

Shrewsbury boss John Askey must decide whether to freshen up his starting XI for the Sky Bet League One match against Gillingham.

Askey had named an unchanged side for last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Scunthorpe, where both forward Aaron Holloway and midfielder Arthur Gnahoua came off the bench.

Forward Lenell John-Lewis could be back in contention after missing the match with a sickness bug. Striker Abo Eisa continues his recovery from a knee problem.

The Gills head to New Meadow looking to halt a run of four straight league defeats, but have several fitness concerns. Midfielder Regan Charles-Cook has just come back from a hamstring injury, but will be assessed on an ankle problem, as will Callum Reilly.

Left-back Connor Ogilvie (ankle) and midfielder Dean Parrett (groin) will also be monitored, along with Elliott List, who has been carrying a rib injury. Midfielder Billy Bingham remains sidelined by an ankle problem.

Shrewsbury have lost just one of their last 11 league games against Gillingham (W5 D5), a 2-3 loss at home in August 2016.

Each of the last seven league encounters between Shrewsbury and Gillingham have seen both teams score, the Shrews netting 12 goals compared to the Gills’ 11.

Four of the last six League One goals conceded by Shrewsbury have either been direct free-kicks (two) or penalties (two).

Gillingham have lost their last five matches in all competitions, their worst run since losing six in a row under Andy Hessenthaler in January and February 2012.

Shrewsbury have taken just seven points in their opening nine league matches this season (W1 D4 L4) – last season, they had 23 points after nine matches (W7 D2 L0).
