Shrewsbury Town 1-2 Charlton Athletic

A last gasp header from Karlan Grant‎ was enough to give Charlton a 2-1 win over Shrewsbury at The Valley on Saturday afternoon.

Lyle Taylor gave the Addicks the lead after 62 minutes, but Lenell John-Lewis cancelled it out seven minutes from time.

Naby Sarr came in for the injured Jason Pearce in a side that was otherwise unchanged from last week.

Shrewsbury were much changed from the play-off games, only two Shrews players who started this game, also started in the play-off games.

A little piece of history was made at the start
of the second half when Lee Bowyer brought Albie Morgan on to replace Mark Marshall. Morgan became the first player born in the 21st century to make a senior appearance for the Addicks.

Bowyer switched to a 3-5-2 shape‎ after the break, with Solly playing on the left of the three central defenders, and Sarr on the right.

There was little to stir the imagination in the first half but the second period started ‎in lively fashion.

Aaron Amadi-Hollloway’s header was saved at the foot of the post by Dillon Phillips after 47 minutes, and eight minutes later Chris Solly had to clear the ball off the line.

But it was Charlton who took the lead just past the hour mark. Joe Aribo played the ball‎ to
George Lapslie, who stood the ball up at the far post for Taylor to nod home.

‎Shrewbury appeared to have salvaged a point seven minutes from time when John-Lewis headed home a cross from the left.

Phillips had to‎ make a smart save three minutes from time to foil Shaun Whalley, but Grant had the final say.

Darren Pratley stood the ball up at the near post for Grant to notch the winner, and send the sparse Valley crowd into raptures.

Aribo was imperious in midfield, ably supported by Pratley. Lapalie will again be pleased with his performance, and Taylor is the complete striker.

Bowyer will be pleased with the win and incurring no more injuries. He must now ponder his team for Tuesday night at Milton Keynes.
