Shorey departs from The Gills

Gillingham Football Club have announced that Nicky Shorey has left his position as Head of Recruitment.

In a statement released on the club’s official website, The Gills have stated that Shorey has left with immediate effect and has been replaced in the interim.

The statement reads:

“The club can confirm that Nicky Shorey has left his position as Head of Recruitment by mutual consent.”

“Everyone at MEMS Priestfield Stadium would like to thank Nicky for his efforts while at the club and we wish him every success for the future.”

“The club is pleased to confirm that we have appointed James King as a Recruitment Consultant in the short-term with immediate effect.”

“James will primarily be tasked with recruitment for the January transfer window. He will be working with, and reporting to the Board, as well as the first-team manager.”

Shorey was brought in by current manager Neil Harris to recruit his squad for the League Two campaign, but just six goals in twenty league outings suggest that recruitment has been far from successful.

The former England international defender was rarely seen at Priestfield and fans began to wonder whether his appointment had been the right one.

Gillingham fans will also begin to wonder how much longer Neil Harris has in charge of the club after a poor run of results sees them just one place off the bottom of the Football League.
