Sheppey Sports claimed a dramatic 1-0 victory over Greenways under the floodlights on Monday evening in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division.

Heading into the fixture, Sports were searching for their first league win of the season after a challenging run of one defeat and three draws from their opening four matches. However, a resilient performance and a remarkable finish saw them secure all three points in unforgettable fashion.

Both sides created a number of opportunities throughout a competitive and closely contested encounter, with neither team able to find a breakthrough for much of the game.

The match took another twist in the 79th minute when Sheppey Sports were reduced to ten men following the dismissal of Josh Spencer.

Greenways looked to take advantage of their numerical superiority, but six minutes later the visitors were also reduced to ten players after one of their players was sin-binned by the referee.

As the game entered its dying moments, Greenways came agonisingly close to snatching a winner, only for their effort to drift wide of the post.

With what proved to be the final action of the match, goalkeeper Jobie Farr launched a long ball forward that sailed over the Greenways defence. Jack O’Neill reacted quickest, racing through on goal before calmly slotting the ball beneath the advancing goalkeeper and into the net.

The referee immediately blew the final whistle after the restart, sealing a dramatic 1-0 victory for Sheppey Sports.

The win lifts Sports into mid-table and extends their unbeaten run to four matches, providing a significant boost to confidence as they continue their SCEFL First Division campaign.
