It’s another momentous occasion for Bromley on Saturday afternoon when they travel up to Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday in a League One fixture.

The Ravens go into the game having picked up four points from their two opening league matches. Winning 1-0 away at Barnsley and then drawing 1-1 at home to Cambridge Utd last weekend. Both league goals have come from summer signing Victor Adeboyejo, scoring both after coming on as a second half sub for Michael Cheek.

Manager Andy Woodman is without the injured Ashley Charles in midfield, Grant Smith in goal and Deon Woodman in defence, but he signed experienced midfielder George Saville from Luton Town this week and fellow new signings Tobias Brenan and Owen Mason were on the bench against Cambridge.

Sheffield Wednesday were relegated from the Championship last season having had a points deduction and severe problems with their previous ownership, but they are now looking to bounce back. So far this campaign Henrik Pedersen’s side have won one and lost one in the league, before losing 2-0 to Wolves in the League Cup on Tuesday night.

Former Bromley loanee Ali Al Hamada signed for the Hillsborough club in the week on loan for the season from Ipswich Town to bolster their front line. Al Hamadi featured in The Ravens FA Trophy Final win at Wembley Stadium in 2022. 

Bromley have sold around 800 tickets for the match, which should create a fantastic atmosphere given Wednesday have over 24,000 season ticket holders.  

When Wednesday were last in the Premier League in 1999/2000, Bromley were struggling in the Isthmian League Division One, finishing ninth. Both clubs have had ups and downs since then, but now, quite incredibly to older Bromley fans, they meet in an EFL fixture.
