Sevenoaks Town 3-0 Croydon

Frankie Sawyer claimed his second hat-trick in three games as Sevenoaks Town beat Croydon 3-0 to go ten points clear at the top of the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table.

Sawyer followed up his first treble for the club in the 6-0 win at Rochester last week – and was first to praise his team mates for helping him.

He said: “ I had a few chances early on, but managed to redeem myself by tucking one away – and the second and third were put on a plate for me.”

“It was a hard night and we had to put a shift in – they moved the ball around well but things seemed to have clicked in the last few weeks, we have found a bit of form again and are scoring goals.”

Sawyer had seen an effort deflected for a corner, and another saved before finishing well to put Town in front after ten minutes.

The visitors moved the ball around well, and almost got level when Laurent Chin saw his effort bounce off Jack Bradshaw’s left hand post, as the game headed towards the interval.

Poor starts after half time have proved frustrating in recent home games, but Town doubled the lead six minutes after the restart. Harrison Carnegie got down the right and crossed, the ball clipped off a defender for Sawyer to pounce – Croydon appeals for offside falling on deaf ears.

Five minutes later, Brett Ince saw his well struck free kick pushed away by goalkeeper Alex Hewitt low down at his left hand post. Bradshaw then did well to block Chin’s effort at his near post, before Town got their third 15 minutes from time. Kenny Pogue broke down the left and his low cross fell nicely for Man of the Match Sawyer to complete his treble and take his tally for the season to 11 – nine of them in the last six games.
