Sevenoaks Town 2-0 Sheppey United

Sevenoaks Town won their first League Cup with a comfortable victory over Sheppey United.

They controlled the game from start to finish with Sheppey occasionally having some action but not causing any problems to the Sevenoaks team.

The game was only three minutes old when Sevenoaks scored, Kieron McCann who would cause a lot of problems in the game got to the by-line & his cross to the back post found Harrison Carnegie who from 10 yards shot into the net but Dean Warford will not like to see a replay as it went through his hands & was a soft goal to give away.

This goal gave Sevenoaks a big lift & they controlled the game & in the 6th minute a corner to the back post saw a bit of head tennis before Tom Ripley headed just over the bar, two minutes later McCann on the left cut inside & tried his luck but it went over the bar.

In the 14th minute in a rare attack Sheppey’s Richard Atkins 10 yards out was just about to shoot when Ripley got a challenge in & cleared.

Another chance came in the 16th minute when a corner into the area found Ripley on his own & his powerful header was tipped over the bar by Warford, three minutes later McCann in the area was just about to shoot when Rob Saunders got back & blocked his shot & gave away a corner.

The rest of the half saw Sevenoaks trying to get a second whilst Sheppey just lacked the final ball & did not trouble Rob French the Sevenoaks goalkeeper.

The second half took a while to get going but in the 60th minute Byron Walker got to the by-line & his low cross evaded everyone but was kicked out for a corner on the far post.

Two minutes later & a free kick into the area found Ripley & his header came back of the crossbar.

In the 65th minute Sheppey had their first chance of the half when Timmy Babington retrieved the ball by the corner flag went back towards his goal then cut along the area before shooting but it went over the bar.

Sevenoaks wrapped up the game & the Cup when Billy Bennett in the area controlled it, twisted & turned before stabbing home from 6 yards.

In the 86th minute Walker had a glorious chance to make it three when he raced away & from the edge of the area he shot over the bar.

The final whistle went & Sevenoaks deserved their victory which capped off probably their best ever season coming third in the League & winning the cup whilst Sheppey who came fifth in the League will come back but will be disappointed in today’s performance.
