September review: latest from Soccer Elite FA

September was yet another busy month for the coaches and players at SEFA, with new personnel joining and exciting developments for a number of players. Soccer Elite scholars5

Former Swansea City player Lee Morgan has come onboard to work with the Academy and Scholars, having previously worked with the Football Association of Wales and his own club that he set up – West Dragons. SEFA have also relaunched their Performance programme, with new Head Coach Colin Moore working with the players on speed, agility, strength, acceleration and power.

Another high profile new recruit – Jason Brown – will be getting to work with the SEFA goalkeepers from today (Monday 7 October) onwards, with this session at Maplesden and another on Wednesday 9 October at Maidstone United. SEFA also plan to release details of his Elite programme in the near future.

September has proved to be a successful and exciting month for the players as well as the staff at SEFA. Michael Arthey, from the under-13s, has followed in the footsteps of goalkeeper Rush Shefik in earning a trial at Charlton Athletic, while Kieran Morgan, who has come through the SEFA ranks and is now in the under-8 category, has signed for Tottenham Hotspur.

Scholars Greg Skinner and Josh Woolley have also attended England Schools trials, a great achievement, while there have also been call-ups to the England Girls Performance Squads for four current or former SEFA players – Alessia Russo, Katie Startup, Miri Taylor and Chloe Fowler.

The Kent FA Girls PDC also proved to be a great success, with a full take-up and plenty of praise for SEFA’s coaching methods and set-up, which is proving to be a pioneering model across the FA, with full squad at under-11, under-13 and under-15 level beginning training this week.

In yet more exciting news, SEFA have received invitations to two 2014 European Tournaments, set to mirror the successful Barcelona trip – a full announcement of which will take place later this week on Friday 11 October.

There are a number of exciting fixtures for players and fans to look forward to in the coming month. Recognition of SEFA’s calibre was given when scouts from Nottingham Forest and Peterborough attended their away fixtures at Corby Town FC on Saturday, while on Monday 28 October, an all-day invitation for Soccer Elite sees all age groups from the under-7s to the under-13s take on Sussex Academy at Saffron Sports Club in Eastbourne.

Then on Thursday 31 October, all age groups from under-13 to under-17 will come up against Portsmouth FC at Cowes Sports FC and Newport IOW on the Isle of Wight, after a special invitation following previous introductory fixtures in August.
